A hazard is any source of potential damage, harm or adverse health effects on something or someone under certain conditions at work.

Risk is the chance or probability that a person will be harmed or experience an adverse health effect if exposed to a hazard. It may also apply to situations with property or equipment loss.

6. Types of hazard: 1. Biological example: blood, orine

2. Chemical example: industrial poisons

3. Ergonomic example: prolonged typing

4. Physical example: prolonged sun exposure, permanent noise

5. Psychosocial example: stress, long working hours 6. Safety example: working at heghts

It´s a process to: 1. Identify hazards

2. Analyze or evaluate the risk associated with that hazard

3. Determine appropriate ways to eliminate or control the hazard

8. What is a hazard control program?

A control program consists of all steps necessary to protect workers from exposure to a substance or system, and the procedures required to monitor worker exposure and their health to hazards such as chemicals, materials or substance, or other types such as noise and vibration. A written workplace hazard control program should outline which methods are being used to control the exposure and how these controls will be monitored for effectiveness.

10. What is a JSA?

A job safety analysis (JSA) is a procedure which helps integrate accepted safety and health principles and practices into a particular task or job operation. In a JSA, each basic step of the job is to identify potential hazards and to recommend the safest way to do the job. Other terms used to describe this procedure are job hazard analysis (JHA) and job hazard breakdown.
