Today I’m going to talk about an interview that my partner Dani does to Guadalupe Posada.

But first I’m going to talk about him.

José Guadalupe Posada Aguilar was born in “El Barrio del Encino” in Aguascalientes Mx, on February 2nd of 1852. He was an important engraver, illustrator and caricaturist. His most important character was “La Catrina”.

1. Dani asked to Posada if “La Catrina” was the real name of his famous character and he answer that the real name was “La Catrina Garvancera” because it was a parody of poor people who pretended to be a rich people who came from Europe and they didn’t like it they’re culture and origins, that’s why “La Catrina” is always undress and she just use a fancy cap.

2. She asked when he started to make drawings by himself. So he told her that when he was 16 he and his brother José Cirilo entered to study at Academia Municipal de Dibujo de Aguascalientes, there was when he started to make drawings by himself.

3. Dani asked to Posada which was his first official drawing, so he told her that when he started to work with a man who his name was Trinidad Pedroza he made a drawing about politics and that job was published in “El Jicote” (it was a newspaper of that time) so, there is when he started to made official drawing.

4. She asked why he moved to Leon, Guanajuato with his Tr. Trinidad Pedroza. And he answer that he just moved because he want to open a drawing workshop and be a lithography teacher on Escuela de Instruccion Secundaria.

5. Dani asked when he got married and which the name of his wife was. So he told her that he got married in Aguascalientes with Maria de Jesus Vela on 1875.

6. She asked where he learned to do a engraved drawing. Then he told her that when hi moved to Mexico city he started to do a engraved drawing with lead and zinc.

7. Dani asked him why he started to do drawings with skulls about the government. So he told her that he does it because at that time the people was manipulated and exploited by the government. He wanted to mock, that’s why he started to do little stories with skulls with fancy clothing, dancing and singing, skulls drinking pulque, tequila or mescal, in important newspapers of the city.

8. She asked to Posada why he made “La Catrina” So he told her that he just made it because it was a symbol of death, at that time Mexico was in a revolution so he just wanted to express what was happening in Mexico.

9. Dani asked why “La catrina” was always dressing fancy clothing. He answered that it was because she want to get fun with deadly people but sometimes she just dressed like this because she came to take it us at the other side.
