Hello Andreanne!

I’m very happy because Christmas. In this e-mail I explain about the most important traditions.

When Christmas comes around, cities and towns are illuminated with lights in the streets. There are also Christmas fairs, too.

People in their homes mounted Christmas trees, manger and in some houses there is also a “Cagatió”. Mount the tree is buy a tree or catch you in some woods and putting lights, tinsel, balls and one star on the tree. The manger is a representation of the Jesus’ birth. A typical figure here is “caganer”. The “Cagatió” is a tree trunk which will draw eyes, nose and mouth and put two legs. Children feed him from 8 to 25 of December, that night they hit him with a stick and he leave a present.

On December 24 evening families get together and sing carols. The 24th night Santa Claus outs presents all the houses and 25th children get up and they see presents under the tree.

On December 31, we celebrated Year’s Eve. Families get together and at 11:59:48 start to eat 12 grapes, one per second, to making way to the New Year.

It is also tradition, the 5th of January, which is the Three King Parade. It is a parade of carriages with different characters, and in the end the three kings. Are at night and the kings throw sweets to the children.

The 6th of January is probably the day of the year where children up early more because under  trees their wait many presents that the kings leave overnight. At noon or afternoon usually eat the “Roscon de reyes”. It is a brioche and it hidden a king and a bean. Who is found with the king is crowned with a crown and who is found the bean pays brioche.
