OUTLINE

WARM UP

  1. Have Ss stand up.
  2. Ss will be asked some questions on their plans:
  • Who would like to get married?
  • Who would like to have children?
  • Who would like to learn another language?
  • Who would like to buy a car?
  • Who would like to finish University?
  1. Have Ss go down if their answer is positive.
  2. Have Ss stand up, or keep in this initial position, if their answer is positive.
  3. Have Ss keep in the same position until their answer to a following question changes.

VOCABULARY BUILD UP

  1. Ss wil be shown a family tree.
  2. Ss will be shown some sentences which they have to complete using some pre-given vocabulary form the book:

husband / grandparents / cousin / sister / mother / grandson / wife / daughter / aunt

  1. Ss will be asked what the relationship is in between two selected members of the family. E.g. Fred is Rob’s grandfather, so Rob is Fred’s grandson.
  2. The activity will continue until all the vocabulary is used.

PRE-READING ACTIVITY

  1. Ss will be asked some questions on the picture:
  1. What can you see in the picture?
  2. Where are the two women?
  3. What are they doing? (talking) What about?
  4. What do they look like?
  1. Ss answers will be listened.
  2. Some concept questions can be made if necessary.

READING ACTIVITY/PRESENTATION

  1. Have Ss listen and read the conversation between Lucy and Amber.
  2. Check Ss’ predictions.

POST-READING ACTIVITY

  1. Ss will be made some comprehension questions on the reading:
  1. Who is Amber shopping with?
  2. What is her cousin doing at that moment?
  3. Why isn’t Amber at work?
  4. What is she doing in that week?
  5. When is Amber getting married?
  6. Is Lucy going to Amber’s wedding?
  1. Have those questions written on the board.
  2. Have Ss answer those questions.

ACTIVITY 1

  1. Have Ss work in trios by numbering them from 1 to 9.
  2. Once Ss are in teams, they will be provided with a hand out on the uses of present continuous:
  1. Reference to the future.
  2. Reference to something happening now.
  3. Reference to a temporary state.

TEAM 1 (reference to the future)

Amber needed white shoes because she is getting married.

  1. Is Amber in her wedding at that moment?
  2. When is her wedding?
  3. Why does the verb “getting” have double “t”? Observe more examples: cutting, running, shopping.

TEAM 2 (reference to something happening now)

Amber’s cousin is looking for a dress at the moment.

  1. Where is Amber’s cousin?
  2. Is the action happening now?
  3. Circle appropriate key words similar to at the moment.

Right now        yesterday        now        tomorrow

TEAM 3 (reference to a temporary state)

Amber is spending a lot of time in shops in her week off.
