Charles Chaplin was born in London-England April 16, 1889. He was an actor, comedian, composer, producer, director and writer. Chaplin produced and acted in many films and one of them developed political issues. This film in which Chaplin was the writer, director and main character is called “Modern Times”. It tells the story about a worker whose job was to tighten nuts in a factory, due to his demanding job he got crazy and was sent to hospital. After that, he was arrested and sent to prison for taking part by accident of turmoil. Once his set free he start fighting for survival with the company of a young orphan girl he met.

The industrial revolution was a rapid growth in technology and machinery that helped people to work in a better and faster way. During these times, lots of people lost their jobs because they were replaced by machines that were able to take their positions satisfactorily.

The relationship that I find between the film “Modern Times” and the Industrial Revolution is that in the film Charles Chaplin showed the problems that workers faced such as the stress of working under a mechanized job, low salaries, oppression, poverty, injustice, etc. All the problems previously mentioned appeared in society as a result of industrialization and affected people´s lives. In the film we can also see that the social classes that suffer the most are the workers because they had to put up with terrible working conditions, employers´ abuse and excessive working hours. It is also shown in the film that many people who were unemployed made queues outside the factories just because they desperately needed to get a job, which was true in real life. During industrialization, employers forgot about workers´ rights since they were seen just as part of the production process, where the final product was the only and real important thing. This film shows clearly the suffering that a part of society had to face and if we want to know a bit more the process of industrialization it would be a good recommendation. However, we may say that the industrial revolution helped us to become what we are now thanks to technology development in industry.
