Mission Improbable

  1. What are emotions?

Emotions are those feelings you get when something happens.  They can be good or they can be bad.  Emotions are a very good feeling when they are good emotions but if they are not, they can lead to a grudge with the person, causing you to want some sort of revenge.  People have to be really careful not to mess with the wrong person’s or animal’s emotions.

  1. Is it true that only humans can feel emotions? Is there any evidence in the text to refrute this notion?

Not only humans can feel emotions.  Animals can feel them as well.  A great example for this is when Sheldrick called an elephant and touched her ear the elephant had a bad emotion about that so she sent Sheldrick flying by using her tusk and trunk.  Sheldrick also said that whenever they misbehaved she would give them “a little zing in the bum” but she said that after that you had to be very careful if you wanted to be friends with them again because they remember what you did to them.

  1. What other types of animals do you think have emotions?

I believe that every animal has emotions even if they are just very little ones they still do and we humans sometimes do not realize that they do have emotions. We just act like if they were not there sometimes.

  1. Have you ever seen an elephant in a circus or zoo? Do you think it is OK to keep elephants in captivity? Should zoos and aquariums be closed down? Why or why not.

I have never seen an elephant in my life.  I do not know too much about how a circus would be but I know that keeping the elephants in a zoo is not a bad idea.  They get a great treatment with people that take care of them and keep them very healthy.  I do not think zoos or aquariums should close because it is a very good home for animals and a place for them to be safe and not in the wild.

  1. Why would most people accept the killing of a snake, but not the killing of a baby seal?

Killing a baby seal would be somewhat pointless because they do no harm whatsoever.  Killing a snake is a situation that I find more common because snakes are very dangerous, they can kill a person.  Most people would agree on killing the snake because it is one less risk or danger to worry about while the baby seal is a much more friendly and fun type animal.

  1. Animals are used in the testing of cosmetics and to test new medical inventions. Should animals be used for these purposes? Is testing on animals unethical? Is it necessary? Are some types of experiments on animals valid, whereas others are not?
