Feast of the Goat

In the book are three stories that intertwine with each other. While Urania visits his father in Santo Domingo, after being absent for 35 years, back to 1961, when the Dominican capital was dominated by Trujillo: first look closely at the world dictator nicknamed the Goat and the other, experiences and experiences of a group of protesters with the dictatorial regime that decided to take justice in their hands.

In the book Nine Stories are told; nine lives marked by a single figure: the Dominican dictator Rafael Leonidas Trujillo. Only one is told from the present: Urania Cabral, the daughter of ex-Senator Agustín Cabral misfortunes happened in the last days of the regime.

When she left the Dominican Republic, Urania was just a girl of fourteen. Now go back without a clear reason, turned into a mature, cold woman with a deep aversion to men and focusing solely on a job that you are passionate about. No longer even feel hatred for his father, the man who gave it to General Trujillo in a last desperate attempt to get back to their favors. No hatred, but neither is able to feel anything.

Memories of Urania are interspersed in the other stories that happened in the time she fled to America. The Generalissimo, causing all the trouble occurred in the book, spends his last few weeks struggling with the problems that harass the country: bad relations with the rest of the world (USA, Cuba and the Communists, the Church ...), the eternal conspirators who betray their own country, caring relationships with his confidants that no sitting unattended. All poisoned by awareness of the early signs of aging that will stain your pants and humiliated him in front of the girl Uranita Cabral.

Several characters in the story, agree to kill Trujillo all have different reasons that motivates them to take this plan.

One is the lieutenant Amado Garcia Guerrero; Amadito was faithful follower of Trujillo to twenty-nine. It was then that he realized the true reality of the regime; prevented him from marrying the woman beloved by her brother communist. He accepted it as a sacrifice to his head. After saying goodbye to his girlfriend, I cheated so they killed the brother. Torments him since that memory, and want to pay the real culprit.

The feeling of Antonio Imbert, another character involved in the plan to end the life of the dictator, is less individualistic than their peers. He seeks above all the liberation of their country, the Dominican people from the oppression of "the Beast" however, Antonio Imbert has also, in a way, someone who avenge: Mirabal sisters, activists of the 14th of June. His murder became a symbol of the fight against trujillismo, and inspires them ex-military.
