The Central Agoyán was designed to harness the flow of the Pastaza River , located in the Tungurahua province 180 km east of Quito and 5 km east of the city of Bath in the area called the Ulba Agoyán parish, main gateway to the Ecuadorian Amazon sector.

The Pastaza River Basin covers an area of 8270 km2, in the provinces of Cotopaxi , Chimborazo and Tungurahua .

The overall size of the area of influence of the Central is 5.00 km2 with an average annual production of 1,080 GWh . The maximum level of the reservoir is located at an altitude of 1651 m

The dam is formed by:

- Two 9mm bottom outlets . wide by 9m . height , for cleaning and emptying of the reservoir sediments .

- Three dumps excess of 15m . high by 12m . wide.

- A semi - native sand trap pond 150m . Long and 90m . wide.

- A sand trap drain line and the structure of decision .

- Cargo Tunnel whose intake is located in the body of the dam , has a length of 2378m . and 6m . internal diameter. Drives a flow of 120m3 per second.

- Underground pressure piping 5m average vertical diameter.
