Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Inglourious Basterds is a film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. It has various famous actors such as Brad Pitt, Melanie Laurent and the marvelous Christoph Waltz. The film won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for best actor in a supporting role (Christoph Waltz) and several nominations for different categories.

The movie is set in France, occupied by Nazi Germany, in the years of the second world war. It was filmed mostly in Germany at Potsdam.

Inglourious Basterds is about two groups of people, who don’t know each other, but who have the same goal, to kill Hitler. The film starts when Hans Landa, a Nazi coronel, kills Shoshana’s family, a jewish family, while she is able to escape. Some years later she is managing a cinema in Paris and meets a German war hero who introduces her to Goebbels, minister of propaganda. Goebbels had directed a film about the war hero and they agree to present it at Shoshana’s cinema which Hitler would attend. On another place there is a group of American soldiers, who call themselves “The Basterds”, dedicated to kill Nazis and go through a journey until they find themselves in the same cinema with Hitler and Shoshana. All of them will try to kill Hitler in different ways but will have to confront some of the Nazis present at that place.

I strongly recommend Inglourious Basterds. It’s a war film different from the others as it doesn’t tell the story as it happened in real life. Christoph Waltz’ acting is worthy to mention as a reason to watch the film in which he was outstanding in his role as Hans Landa. The film has drama and some humor typical of Tarantino, just like its violent scenes seen in his previous films like the classic Pulp Fiction (1994) which makes it quite entertaining.
