NOTES:

-In order to import cell phones you need a special permission from MTC to become an authorized importer. This authorization is needed because some equipment may not work in the adequate band or for other reasons may be forbidden in this country.

1. Register to MTC

The trading houses of telecommunications equipment and appliances must register with the responsible for this Registry is the DG Concessions Communications.

The entry in the register, enables the trading house to ask for permission for placement of telecommunications equipment and devices to be marketed.

2. Permission for placement (Internamiento)

Placement Permit is a document issued by the MTC through which authorizes a person or company, the income of a computer or telecommunications equipment to the country, which must meet the specifications required to be used, is ie, it must have the appropriate Certificate of approval.

3. Certificate of approval (homologación)

“Homologación” is the process that involves checking the compatibility of operation and operating a computer and / or telecommunications device with a network or telecommunications system according to international standards and national technical standards approved by the Ministry. Its objectives are:

• Electrical safety, on the protection of the health and safety of the user or any person.

• Electromagnetic compatibility, applied to telecommunications equipment or devices that may cause electromagnetic disturbance or whose performance may be affected by such disturbance.

• Protection of telecommunications services authorized or licensed by ensuring the proper use of the radio spectrum to prevent interference.

NOTE: Theres a list of equipments that ALREADY pass this process. If the equipment you are bringing is there you don’t need to do the process again.

4. RESULT OF HOMOLOGACION CAN BE DONE FOR 2 REASONS:

Permission for definitive placement

(Consumption or sale)

Internment will be given final permission, upon application and copy of bill equipment supplier to the trading houses of telecommunications equipment and devices that are registered in the Register of MTC and natural persons and legal concession or authorization holders to provide services telecommunications issued by the Ministry. This process is free.

Exceptionally QUERY request (no permit required or placement) will be awarded to teams internment of individuals or companies for the purpose of personal use, with a maximum of three (03) year telecommunications equipment, such as cell phones, modem wired card, computer and other equipment, having evaluated the MTC. Attaching: Copy of invoice or certificate of recognition, technical specification manual (in English or Spanish), copy of ID. This process is free.

Permit temporary placement

(For testing, exhibitions, screenings and demonstrations of operation)

Temporary custody of equipment and appliances are up to six (06) months, extendable, no approval is needed and used for testing, exhibitions, screenings and demonstrations of operations,

After all this process if the equipment all the importation taxes paid is ready to be send to the distribution stores and be sold to costumers.

*You Should also check if INDECOPI maybe check the equipments by any reason. But it is very unlikely.
