ACHIEVEMENT

Students will demonstrate their understanding of concepts and stylistic devices related to a particular modernist movement, and/or demonstrate their understanding of the influences of culture on an artists work. Students will also utilise basic drawing, painting, and composition techniques, and document their ideas and process.

TASK

Students are to submit two completed pieces by the end of the period, their journal with documentation of their ideas and process, and write an artists statement explaining their four works.

Two pieces will be based on emulating a particular modernist movement, showing an understanding of stylistic techniques AND concepts.

OR

Two pieces will show cultural influences. For one piece, students are to demonstrate cultural influences from Colombia. For the second, students are to choose influences from a foreign culture.

- 2 pieces based on a modernist movement OR 2 pieces based on cultural influence; 1 Colombian, 1 foreign

- Students are to document their ideas, inspirations (examples of artists’ work, or aspects of culture), and their process (preliminary sketches/paintings) in their journal

- The artist statement needs to be 150-200 words and printed

Criteria A: Artworks 20 points (50% of period)

Does the student demonstrate a strong understanding of conceptual and stylistic devices of their chosen movement? Does the student demonstrate a strong understanding of cultural influences? Does the student demonstrate good use of artistic techniques and composition?

Does the student clearly explain their understanding of the elements of their chosen movement, and the influences of culture? Do they clearly explain how they represented this within their works?
