Racism

Some people still don’t know what does the word racism means even though is present in every place we have been because even ourselves may discriminate someone else without noticing it. Racism is defined as:” The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races” (Oxford Dictionary).

Racism is one of the main problems nowadays’ society faces, because people discriminate other people out of their differences, without even knowing them. This can generate a lot of problems that can go from simple things of daily life like not getting a job, to something that can affect a whole society, like genocide. Racism is present in our everyday lives, from the stereotypes shown on media, to the supposed hierarchy of classes, both socio economic, and socio cultural.

The Human Rights establish that every human being is born automatically with rights, and that every single one of us have dignity, and we’re born free and equal to every other. Discrimination or racism is an act of violating the Human Righs against to an individual, and there are different kinds of discrimination like: genocides and apartheid.

This is an actual problem that still affects our society which can affect minorities or majorities, and the fight against racism and discrimination against ethnic groups has started since 1990.

Racism between genders one of the most common types of discrimination worldwide. It has happened throughout the whole human history, since one gender tries to establish a supposed supremacy over the other. Some clear examples of this in our current age are: Saudi Arabia where women can't vote, Cameroon where the husband decides if the wife gets to work or not, or Nigeria where the husband can even get to extremes like beating her and still be protected by the law.

Throughout history we have been trying to change the stereotypes of genders and live on a more equal society. We have improved a lot since; for example, ancient greece was a culture where women didn't have any rights at all and they were only useful for giving birth, nowadays they can even archive to take important political charges and lead a company. We have specially developed on this topic on the last century, when the feminist movement took place and made people look at this from a different point of view. But even so, we have still a long way to go to eradicate this problem; for example, on Spain, according to the IAM (Andaluz Intsitute for Women), 1162 cases of women who were being abused were treated this year. This was even a greater number than the one from last year; or for example, an eleven year-old Yemeni girl that went to hide on a uncle's house so that she could avoid a forced marriage that their parents imposed to her.

Another common way of racism its the racism against cultural expressions which are especially common on countries with a really high level of nationalism and on places where people don't easily accept different ideas from their own

According to the UNESCO the cultural expressions are: Those expressions that result from the creativity of individuals, groups and societies, and that have cultural content.

Today this behavior is encouraged or mainly starts in schools, the disrespect towards different kind of cultures often goes with bullying, and this is not only in schools it is happening everywhere. Some organizations have created campaigns in order to eliminate racism in this sector, like the UN, besides every
