Recommendation Letter

It is a true pleasure for me to write this letter of recommendation for Liliana Valadez, who was my student in Ballet Class, in the summer and spring term of 2004. Liliana is, without question, one of the four or five most outstanding students I have taught at Centro Estatal de las Artes in three years of teaching.

Liliana is a careful and professional dancer with an eye for details and a devotion to beauty, which serves her well both in her job and outside of it. She has a terrific ability to impress her own style to develop a variety of different and new techniques. Liliana already knew she wanted to major in dance when she took my course.

Her regular contributions to full-class dance routines provided insight both for her peers and for me as an instructor.

Liliana was also invaluable in small-group interaction with her peers. Without my asking she took on the responsibility of helping her classmates consolidate vast amounts of routines, and she quickly became a study group leader. I remember her meeting individually with a new student several times before the final exam to help him master all the material in time.

Liliana breaks the “dancer” stereotype with her revolutionary moves: she was the best dancer in the two sections I taught that year. And what was perhaps even more impressive was that she took the task of improving her dancing as or more seriously than any other student in the class.

Liliana is not only an excellent student, but she is also personally delightful. She is as comfortable with herself as she is engaging, pleasant, and humorous. As I got to know Liliana over the years, I became only more impressed by the range of her abilities (and by her modesty about them). She is an accomplished dancer and actor, both of which she does with a passion rare in undergraduates.

I wholeheartedly recommend Liliana as a prospective dance school student. In fact, I can think of few students whom I would recommend as highly. She will add a great deal to any dance school class. I can also envision Liliana as a highly competent and talented dancer someday, which I say as a high compliment indeed.
