The following list of game genres accompanied by a brief description and some examples of each. I must say that it is increasingly common for a game contains elements of different genres, which makes difficult to classify. A good example of this phenomenon are the games of the Legend of Zelda series, which contain both elements of action, adventure and role. This fusion of genres in turn creates new genres, such as role-action or action-adventure. Fighting games, as its name suggests, recreate fighting between both controlled by a player such as computer characters. The player usually sees fighters from a side perspective, as if it were a spectator but there are exceptions that handle 3D environments and first person

Examples: Street Fighter, Guilty Gear (series), BlazBlue, Fatal Fury, Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Soul Calibur, Super Smash Bros. (series), The King of Fighters, Killer Instinct.

Beat 'em up

The beat 'em up, also called "fighting game to progression" are similar to the fighting, with the difference that in this case the players must fight with many individuals as they move along multilevel games, normally seen moving along side perspective scenarios. Examples: Double Dragon, Splatterhouse, Final Fight, Streets of Rage, Die Hard Arcade, Viewtiful Joe, Battletoads, The Warriors.

Arcade

The arcade games are characterized by simple, repetitive and fast action gameplay. More than a genre in itself, it is a qualifier under which all those typical games arcades (beat 'em up, shooter, platforms) are included. They had their heyday in the 1980s.

Examples: Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pac-Man, Missile Command, Galaxian, Robostrike.

Platforms

The player controls a character who must move around the stage avoiding physical obstacles, whether jumping, climbing or squatting. In addition to the capabilities of displacement as jumping or running of the characters in platform games; this genre may be more inclined, or action or adventure; so no one could broadly categorize the platforms as an adventure game or action.

FPS

In video games FPS, also known as FPS (first person shooter), the protagonist is handled from a subjective perspective, that is, we see on the screen what you see your character, and therefore we do not see him

Examples: The House of the Dead, Halo, Operation Wolf or Crysis.
