He was born on November 7, 1867 in Warsaw (Poland). The State restricted her and forced her to study secretly just because she was a woman. At the age of 24 (1891) he decided to move to Paris. There he studied physics and mathematics at the University of Paris, graduating with honors in both degrees, first in physics (1893) and second in mathematics (1894). In 1894 she also met her husband and research partner: physics professor Pierre Curie, with whom she would make important discoveries in the field of radioactivity.

In 1903 she defended a thesis entitled "Research into radioactive substances", for which she received a doctorate with honors and the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 (shared with her husband, Pierre Curie, and her doctoral director, Henri Becquerel). . Three years later, in 1906, she took up the chair of physics at the University of Paris left vacant by her husband after his death in 1904, becoming the first woman to teach at the institution in more than 600 years. history .

His last major academic honor, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, was awarded in 1910 for the discovery of polonium (the name of his native country) and radium.

Finally, Marie Curie died at the age of 66 in her native Poland after leaving a legacy that marked a turning point in the history of women and science. apparently due to an illness caused by the high levels of radiation to which he was exposed for much of his life.
