AGING OF THE BRAIN

TAKING AWARENESS ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT IS TAKING CARE ABOUT OUR MIND.

THE PROBLEM

The aging brain is one of the vital processes that cause major effects on human health, for the obvious importance of this organ is to the proper functioning of our body and even our mental balance.

Also we need to know how and why the brain ages and, derived from this, if there is a way to stop this decline, is a source of important research in contemporary neuroscience.

HYPOTHESIS

My hypothesis consists in demostrate

how is possible to get young the brain,

through a scientific method, that is about

an alteration in the gene Nodo 1.

Also avoiding bad habits as alcohol or drugs, and eating healthy food we can conservate the normal growing age of the brain.

INVESTIGATION

Recently researchers at the Medicine University of Yale have identified a gene in the brain of rats is causing the loss of plasticity in adult brains.

As is known, the plasticity is the ability to learn new things, to create new synaptic connections and also to recover more easily and promptly brain injury.

According to this study, the activity of Nodo receptor 1 suppresses the plasticity of the adult brain, for this removing the genetic script that resulted in reaching this age, the rats with which they experienced maintained plasticity levels his youth.

But even more surprising is that even in the case of adult, block the operation of this gene reset your brain, returning the plasticity of the adolescent age.

According to one of the pioneers of the investigation, Stephen Strittmatter, the function of this gene is to synthesize "the molecules that the brain needs to transition from adolescence to adulthood", for its part Vincent Coates, it added that this "suggests that we can turn back the clock of a adult brain and recover from trauma in the same way that children recover."

The finding presents an optimistic picture for those who have suffered some type of brain injury, which in most cases causes a person to have to relearn again operations, such as hand movement is basic believe. If the results of this research can be extended to humans, this feedback would be significantly faster.

CONCLUSION

As we want to demostrate in the hypothesis, as we can see in the results of the scientific operations in the rats, it’s possible the recover the young brain through the plasticity.

We know a lot about early brain development, but surprisingly little of what happens with this in late adolescence.
