Solar Desalination

The Project in what we are going to work is a solar thermal desalination system or solar still. This system consists on a simple way of desalinate or purify water through the process of evaporation and condensation of water. So, for it, we are going to simulate the system using a small box which contains the impure, polluted or seawater and it is covered by a glass; and a collector of the pure and desalinated water. This is diagram of the system:

We decided to do this project because of the importance that it has. It is known that a large global problem is the lack of drinkable water. In addition, there is also a limited supply of conventional energy. Therefore, this system could be a smart solution as it is friendly with environment and economically sustainable.

In addition, it is interesting to study this solar still because it consist of an isolated system where temperature plays the main roll. It is interesting how water changes from phase of liquid to gas and then to liquid again, it is also important to take into account the pressure of water and verifying that volume preserves constant.
