1. Hello everyone, my name is Hernan David Arboleda and my partner is Alison Gonzalez, we are currently studying Public Accounting at the Universidad Del Valle.
2. Today we will talk about a problem that has been affecting the Colombian environment since 1980. In our brief presentation, we will explore the challenges and consequences of this illegal activity in our country. It is important to understand the impact of illegal mining in order to find solutions that benefit our communities and the environment.
3. Now, why did we choose illegal mining?
We chose this topic because it is an illegal activity that threatens the stability and development of the country.
4. What is illegal mining?
Illegal mining is the illegal practice of mining in a territory. It typically has harmful effects on the environment, and the income it generates may end up being used to finance illegal armed groups, among others.

As you can see, according to the statistics of the newspaper "La República" the most affected region is the Pacific region with 47.79% in its area.
A very important fact is that of this 47.79% of affected area, 42.55% corresponds to the department of Choco.
6. What should be done against illegal mining in Colombia:
- Strengthen the legal and regulatory framework.
- Improve governance.
- Strengthen monitoring and control of mining areas.
What shouldn't be done against illegal mining in Colombia:
- Take repressive measures without considering the causes of illegal mining.
- Offer sustainable economic alternatives without considering the needs of the communities.
7. In conclusion, illegal mining in Colombia poses a complex problem with serious environmental and social repercussions. To address this challenge, a comprehensive approach that combines effective regulation, improved governance and consideration of the needs of local communities, avoiding merely repressive solutions, is essential.
The country must work together to find sustainable solutions that protect both the natural environment and the well-being of its inhabitants.
