English in basic education in Mexico
Is English really necessary in elementary schools in Mexico? It is sometimes said that English classes would be mandatory in each level. In this essay we are going to review some advantages and disadvantages of this idea.
English prepares children for a globalized world. Everyone has listen at least one time that if you learn English you could have more work opportunities and it would be easier for a person to be involved with the language since a young age.
Educational programs are not suitable for students needs. On the other side we have to think on the reality of our country, curriculums and teaching styles are taken from other countries and that does not help because each context can be different. You could also argue that Mexico does not count with much people able to teach English.
In my personal point of view have English classes is necessary, but first we have to set a curriculum according with the needs of our country and then we should be sure about teachers, teachers need to be capable and prepare in order to reach the aims of the programs.
