"Big brother is watching you " is the sign that adorns a large image of the Big Brother , which is found almost everywhere in London. Similarly , microphones and vidsender , are also located on all sides. The microphones report about the events of the war with East Asia and , if necessary , warn the residents who commits a foul . This first chapter give us an introduction to some reality in which the protagonist Winston lives.

Meanwhile, the telescreen, monitors each and every one of the movements within its margin , therefore, Winston Smith measured his steps because he knows that in his own house , as in all others, every suspicious act is monitored by the Thought Police .

As from the narrative, we can realize that the reality of London was not far from the reality in which we live. As well as the state controlled London in the novel, we are controlled in reality. This teach us to think a certain way following the media and hold a specific profile that keeps us oblivious to what's really happening in the world.

However, just as in the novel, in reality there are also some who are able to realize this control and simply continue living what they are told, not daring to be different to avoid problems.

And for that reason I think Winston turns his back to the telescreen and sinks into her thoughts.
