Summary of Superbird

The book talks at the beginning about a radiobroadcast of the Daily Star (a news program) where Mary Mount tells a story that begins with 5 “people”: Ford, Stone, Sands, Bridges and herself. They were small, round headed and with little noses people from other planet. The ship they were travelling in was called “Superbird” which crashed into the desert in a new land, the Earth. Ford and Stone died there. Sands was killed inside the ship by the Earth soldiers. Mount and Bridges tried to escape but Bridges got caught and he was shot too. Mount survived and ran away to a house in the desert. There she knew a woman with a long yellow hair and white skin called June and Shepp: a brown, small dog. There she rested for three days and after that, she was taken by the soldiers to help them draw Superbird. She stayed at the Earth for almost nine months living with June, which taught her English.

After all that time, the humans were able to build a new Superbird, telling Mary that she can go home there. They went to the planet of Mary but there the Earth crew (Jim and Steve) tried to kill her. So Mary in defense, killed them with a gas in the Supercar (which was there as a part of the old Superbird).

After the broadcast, Captain Lake, another alien, talked to Mary about returning to the Earth and asked if she wanted to go. She said she was happy to go back to Earth.

The second broadcast is sometime later, when they returned to their planet. Mary Mount tells the story about the journey. She said that Captain Lake shot at the people in Earth and because of that, one of the Superbirds (Superbird 2) was destroyed by the humans. She also said that she was hurt in the crash of Superbird 2 and he recovered in the house she used to live 20 years ago. But June was there anymore, her daughter Sheila was there instead. She looked like her mother June. And there was a dog called Judd, the son of Shepp. After that, she recovered a bit and then she talked to the Major Jones. He told her the true story about the crash of Superbird 2 and how Captain Lake shot at the Earth people. However Major Jones still wanted the other ship to land and they did. After that, Mary was taken to answer for what happened. She didn’t know about the guns and she tried to talk to Captain Lake and make him said he was sorry. After that Mary meet Sam who was alive and had been living in a hospital since the first crash of Superbird. Sometime later, they went to see the president of USA, with Sam, Sylvia Beach (one of the survivors of the crash of Superbird 2) and the Captain Lake, but Captain Lake was still angry to the humans and tried to kill the president. He was stopped by Mary, who saved the president’s life. After that he was put in prison. After that they went all over the planet Earth. Sheila and Major Jones hot married. Finally they went back to their planet.
