  1. Install SQL Server 2005

With the SQL Server 2005 install disk 1 loaded, from the Start menu under “Install”, select “Server Components, tools, Books Online, and samples”.

Review the End User License Agreement and check Accept and Next if you plan to continue with the installation.

The setup program wizard will determine what prerequisites are required and prompt to install them…

On the following dialog, select all options and press Advanced…

Select the Local System account or preferably the assigned Domain Service Account (e.g. AMER\SRVMOP-PFIND-IT)

Select SQL Server Agent, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and SQL Browser  to start at then end of setup.

Use both the Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication modes.  Use an appropriate password for the “sa” account.

For Collation Settings, SQL Server Setup will suggest the default collation based on the locale of your Windows server.  Please use the value suggested by SQL Server Setup.

For US English Servers the default is:

 SQL collations - Dictionary order, case-insensitive, for use with 1252 Character Set.

For the Report Server Installation Options, select the Install the default configuration option.

Do not have any of the Error and Usage Report Settings selected.

If the “Ready to Install” screen does not have following minimum components identified, then go back to select them.  Click on Install to continue.

Check the setup error logs.
