Article: The Smartphone war has begun. Who will sell more?

Summary

This piece of news talks about the arrival of the new IPhone 6 in Colombia, and with this, the different approaches that every carrier is taking with it. This new iPhone has been one of the most successful products from Apple since 2010 when they introduced the iPhone 4; its 4.7 and 5.5 inch models has fulfilled the need of a bigger screen which has been wanted from a lot of customers, but the hardware is not the only thing people want, Apple’s software is clean, fast and user-friendly and this makes it a highly requested OS by casual clients, its variety of features has attract the attention from persons who usually are loyal to another kind of brand or OS such as Android. However this article focuses on the ways that the national carriers are going to offer this product to the customers. Due to the “image” that Apple has, carriers offer them at really high prices as they provide an “status” to their buyers. Claro is offering the lowest (spec-wise) device for $59.415 pesos/month with a 2 years contract, and offering the almost highest (spec-wise) device for $88.503 pesos/month with a 2 years contract as well. In the case of Movistar they are offering a more expensive plan but with less time of contract, they are also implementing the strategy of receiving older IPhones as part of payment to the new one, which may be help full for a lot of people.
