El angel de la independence

The monument of independence better known like angel of the independence is located in paseo de la reforma

Is one of the main symbols of the city the monument is dedicated to the Heroes of Independence, even some of his remains found inside the mausoleum itself of this patriotic grounds.

The first stone of this recognized monument was laid on January 2, 1902 By Porfirio Diaz. The Project Steering was by architect Antonio Rivas Mercado, also author of the Theater Juarez in Guanajuato City.

The angel of the independence are made of bronze covered with ore Symbol of Mexico City is popularly known as The Angel , because of the Winged Victory (Representation of the Greek goddess Nike ) Tops Do With That Column, in the manner of Related Monuments in Berlin and London.

All of them , after taking up arms against the Spanish Empire and the "European" , obtained its independence as " Mexican " after a prolonged and devastating people's revolution that ended in August 1821, when Spain , through the Treaty of Cordoba ( were signed in Córdoba, Veracruz) , recognized the independence after three centuries of iron rule : 1521-1821 .

Opened in 1910 to commemorate the centenary of the independence of Mexico by the then President of Mexico, Porfirio Diaz, one of the most important monuments of the city and is now used as a cultural icon of Mexico City and place of celebration and protests nationals

Made as an honorary column topped with a statue of Winged Victory holding a laurel wreath and a broken chain of three links, this column will turn up on a stepped pedestal completed by different statues and allegorical inscriptions Mexico's independence

The pedestal

In the east of the pedestal, is at the top a sculpture called "Apotheosis of the Father of the Nation" comprised of three figures, two of which symbolic figures. Standing is located, waving a Mexican flag, the priest Miguel Hidalgo, South sitting with a book and a pen muse of history, north on attitude and offering up a wreath Hidalgo is La Patria. The square pedestal base has four statues at the ends to a level slightly lower than that of Hidalgo, Jose Maria Morelos corresponding to that of the southeast, Francisco Xavier Mina's surponiente, Nicolás Bravo and Vicente Guerrero of norponiente of the northeast.
