My Cultural Experiences

I enjoy moving freely through the world, meeting new people and sharing my talents and experience. Since I was a little girl my parents have instilled the values of respect and tolerance to the people whom has different points of view about how life works. I am not afraid about know different backgrounds than my own. The one culture that I believe most, and I would like to develop more is the one in which I can break walls between different cultures around the world. I believe family is important. My family thought me to fight for my dreams, to achieve every goal that in some time of my life I would have, as the ones I already have. My family inspires me to do the things I love. I was raised with morals and values, those that make me the women I am nowadays. I grew up with the most important feelings for me “Love”. I believe that love is one of the ingredients to found happiness and am not talking about the love of a partner only. I believe You can experience this feeling by loving yourself, by loving others, by loving a pet, or even by loving a thing. I believe and practice the culture of hard work; I believe this skill is fundamental in order to be successful in life. I think we must put all our effort to achieve all the goals we set throughout life.

In my country the values and morals are learned in home and school. I have been experiencing a lot of cultural norms. I believe in my culture norms. My culture norms are respect and tolerant all the different ideas than mine. Always says thanks for what we had. As I said family is one of the most important things in my life, so another cultural norm that I appreciate, and I try to always do is to have lunch with all my family on Sundays. In Guatemala is usual to have a big family, so the meetings with all the members are important. In my culture after have breakfast, lunch and dinner you have to say, “Bon Appetite”. The Guatemalan culture can be described as formal and conservative. In my country women greet one another, and men, with air kisses, while men greet one another with firm handshakes, that is another culture norm. My usually well-received “Hola” is replaced with more formals regards like Good morning, good afternoon or good evening. Guatemala is a variety mix of cultures, all of them are part of me, so I believe I belong to many cultures. Some of them I learned in School, but most part I learned in home, with my family.
