tirana is the most famous of the religious festivals of the North of Chile and is organized between 12 and 18 July in the village Dela Tirana, a72 km. South East of the city of Iquique and a20 km. of Pozo Almonte.

The village Dela Tirana, small town in the North of our country with slightly more than 500 people, manages to bring together more than 200 thousand visitors where everyone celebrates one of the religious holidays more colorful and cheerful of Chile in order to celebrate Virgendel Carmen wing. A great party where believers engage in music, dance and offerings to the Virgin, conforming all Chile's largest folk festival.

Together with honor wing Virgendel Carmen, FiestadeLa Tiranaes the presentation of the symbolism of the Andean and culture indigenous to thousands of devotees and tourists who come to the village the Tiranapara enjoy this unique tradition.

The most striking of the celebration, in addition to the festive atmosphere, are the religious dances performed by more than 200 companies from the North of Chile, Bolivia and Peru, each with its own rhythms and costumes. Of course, there is no typical meals.

But how was this religious and cultural tradition? It all began in the year 1535, when Diego de Almagro on his expedition from Cuzco to Chile had in his entourage the Prince Inca Huillac Huma - last priest of the cult of Inti - and next to him was his daughter's name Ñusta Huillac. In a moment of carelessness, the Inca and his daughter escaped from the expedition and many of the Incas prisoners fled with them to the pampa del Tamarugal. Once there, Ñusta Huillac took the lead and held his own to resist in that area.

They became so feared that the Inca woman renamed it as the "Tirana of el Tamarugal
