Theory of Everything

The movie that we watch was the Theory of everything. The movie was about the life of Steven Hawking, the smartest man on the planet. It showed his life in Cambridge University before he found out he had Lou Gehrig’s disease and his life after he became a cripple. This movie shows how there are no excuses for anything, if something has to get done there is no excuse that can justify it not getting done. If he changed the world with only a fraction of his body working, why can’t we change the world with one whole able body?

I do believe that this movie should be played again. There are lots of values to learn from this movie but not just to the 11th graders; this movie should be played to the 9th and 10th graders. We need to be taught from early on what it’s like to live with a disability and for us to realize that life isn’t always handy-dandy and that things do happen, even to the smartest man alive. We not only need to be drilled about excuses but we need to be shown that excuse shouldn’t exist. Still, we are not all Steven Hawking. We can’t compare one man to the world. Just because he can doesn’t necessarily mean that we all can, no matter what it is. Yes, he defied all calls against him, but some people just get lucky, and it’s always the smart ones that do.

I am very happy that we watched this movie. It has taught me that even doctors can be wrong and that if a person is willing to go on, if the choice is available, he or she can do so with the support of friends and family and with the courage and will that you give yourself.
