¿WHAT IS DIABETES?
Diabetes is a chronic condition that is triggered when the body loses its ability to produce enough insulin or use it effectively. Insulin is a hormone made in the pancreas that allows glucose to pass food to the body's cells, where it is converted into energy to work the muscles and tissues. As a result, a person with diabetes does not absorb glucose properly, so that it is circulating in the blood and damaging tissues over time. This deterioration causes the potentially lethal complications for health.
There are three main types of diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes
Gestational diabetes mellitus
TYPE 1 DIABETES
TYPE 1 DIABETES IS CAUSED BY AN AUTOIMMUNE REACTION IN WHICH THE BODY'S DEFENSE SYSTEM ATTACKS THE INSULIN-PRODUCING CELLS OF THE PANCREAS. AS A RESULT, THE BODY STOPS PRODUCING THE INSULIN IT NEEDS. THE DISEASE CAN AFFECT PEOPLE OF ANY AGE. PEOPLE WITH THIS FORM OF DIABETES REQUIRE DAILY INSULIN INJECTIONS TO CONTROL THEIR BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS. WITHOUT INSULIN, A PERSON WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES WILL DIE.
The symptoms are:
• abnormal thirst and dry mouth
End / lack of energy fatigue
• constant appetite
• sudden weight loss
• slow wound healing
• recurrent infections
• blurring
TYPE 2 DIABETES
TYPE 2 DIABETES IS THE MOST COMMON TYPE OF DIABETES. IT USUALLY OCCURS IN ADULTS AND CHILDREN. IN TYPE 2 DIABETES, THE BODY CAN PRODUCE INSULIN, BUT EITHER NOT ENOUGH OR THE BODY DOES NOT RESPOND TO ITS EFFECTS, CAUSING AN ACCUMULATION OF GLUCOSE SANGRE.LAS PEOPLE WITH TYPE 2 DIABETES MAY BE A LONG TIME WITHOUT KNOWING THEIR DISEASE BECAUSE THE SYMPTOMS MAY TAKE YEARS TO APPEAR OR BE RECOGNIZED, DURING WHICH THE BODY IS DETERIORATING DUE TO EXCESS BLOOD GLUCOSE. MANY PEOPLE ARE DIAGNOSED WITH DIABETES ONLY WHEN COMPLICATIONS ARISE.
THERE ARE SEVERAL RISK FACTORS FOR TYPE 2 DIABETES:
• OBESITY
• POOR DIET
• LACK OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
• ELDERLY
• FAMILY HISTORY OF DIABETES
• ETHNICITY
• INADEQUATE NUTRITION DURING PREGNANCY AFFECTS THE DEVELOPING CHILD
Unlike people with type 1 diabetes, most of whom have type 2 diabetes do not usually require daily doses of insulin to survive. However, to control the condition could prescribe insulin bound
An oral medication, a healthy diet and increased physical activity.
Gestational diabetes mellitus (dmg)
Since gestational diabetes usually develops in an advanced stage of pregnancy, the baby is well formed, but continue to grow. The risk to the baby is, therefore, lower than those of whose mothers had type 1 or type 2 diabetes before pregnancy. However, women with GDM should also monitor their blood glucose levels to minimize the risk to the baby. This usually can be done through a healthy diet, but you might also need to take insulin or oral medication.
Gestational diabetes usually disappears from the mother after delivery. However, women who have had GDM are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes over time. Babies born to mothers with GDM are also at increased risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes in adulthood.
Type 1 diabetes is not preventable
Type 1 diabetes is not preventable. Even doctors can not determine who will get it and who does not.
In type 1 diabetes, the immune system of a person attacks the pancreas and destroys the cells that produce insulin.
Type 2 diabetes can be prevented
Type 2 diabetes is different. Sometimes it is possible to prevent type 2 diabetes.
In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas produces insulin but the body does not respond to this hormone as it should. One way
