A diminuição ou perda das capacidades intelectuais da pessoa afectada por uma síndroma demencial implica também uma alteração da sua situação jurídica, dado que a sua capacidade de actuar encontra-se alterada. Assim, será necessário adoptar medi- das protectoras para a sua pessoa e o seu património, assim como, se for necessário, promover um processo de incapacidade, cuja sen- tença será emitida por um juiz, o qual indicará o grau da mesma, o regime de tutela ou guarda a que se deve submeter o incapacitado e quem se designa como tutor legal. The field of Clinical Neuropsychology has experienced a great development, thanks to the investigations and publications that have been made both in the basic and applied fields. Nevertheless, only in the last years, clinical neuropsychologists haveparticipatedactivelyinthecourts.Development. Thetestimonyasexpertsof neuropsychologistsismoreandmorecommon. They inform to the judge on the behavioral, emotional and cognitive sequels following lesions to the human brain, as well as the importance of psychosocial variablesinmodulatingbrainfunctionanddysfunction.
