(Genoa, 1451 - Valladolid, 1506) Discoverer of America. The origin of this navigator, probably Italian, is shrouded in mystery work of himself and of his first biographer, his son Hernando Colon. It seems that Christopher Columbus began as modest craftsman and trader and made contact with the sea through coastal navigation for commercial purposes.

In 1476 the Genoese fleet was wrecked in traveling, being attacked by French privateers off Cape St. Vincent (Portugal); since Columbus was established in Lisbon as a commercial agent Centurione house, for which he traveled to Madeira, Guinea, England and even Iceland (1477).

Then he set about mapping and acquire a self-taught: he learned the classical languages, which enabled read the ancient geographical treatises, and began to make contact with the great geographers of the time.

Columbus sailed to the Canary Islands and then westward, reaching the island of Guanahani on October 12, 1492. For the first time a group of European stepped on American soil, although neither Columbus nor his crew were aware of it.

Although the Vikings had reached North America about five hundred years before (expedition Leif Ericson) had not left a permanent establishment nor had circulated the news of the discovery, leaving it therefore inconsequential until time of Columbus.

Isaac Newton was an English scientist, was born on Christmas day in 1642 the old calendar. His mother prepared a farmer future for him. But then I was convinced that her son had talent and sent him to the University of Cambridge, where to pay for his studies he started working.
