QUESTIONS FOR MINICASE 1

1. Why did it take GM over four years to design a new car?

2. Who collaborated with whom to reduce the time-tomarket?

3. How has IT helped to cut the time-to-market?

R1= GM it takes more than 4 years designing a new car because at the time of creating a prototype, they make frontal crash tests and approximately every prototype costs 1 million of dollars, which gather information to improve the appearance and create another prototype to test it again and so on until the car ready. In addition this information collected is required by more than 20,000 designers and engineers which are located at more than 14 locations of GM, which are found in different countries. On the other hand the work of designers and engineers also is required by other 1000 key suppliers. By this they take approximately 4 years to create a new car.

R2= GM working together with its subsidiary EDS Unigraphics, with the help of Microsoft NetMeeting (a Microsoft video call service) to create a model of virtual reality for their testing of frontal crashes, also to share all of the information required by engineers and designers of the 14 headquarters of GM around the world and so reduce their production times and costs.

R3= GM and EDS Unigraphics (IT company), created the GM Advanced Design Studio and the Virtual Reality Lab's (which is in GM's 14 offices around the world). From this they created a virtual reality system for the process of production, inspection, crash tests, and other processes for their cars, also created information systems online to share the information of these processes with all the engineers and designers of the company, and also with all key suppliers of GM. In this way the costs and time of production were reduced.

QUESTIONS FOR MINICASE 2

1. Explain why this is B2E.

2. How is corporate decision making improved?

3. Summarize the benefits to customers, employees, and the company.

R1= As we can see B2E model is implemented as the company seeks to reduce the work of its employees and tired of having to carry large inventories and reducing it slow as I said in the case of 21 hours only 4 leaving more time for employees to interact with customers and improving many processes starting east of implementing an electronic and software that would help with the count of inventories using bar codes and reading machines.

R2=The corporate decision seeks to improve one of the most tedious and costly processes of a company which is the inventory and must know how to store or do not about missing products to meet demand as well as damage or maturity in many of these and so to reduce losses of both goods and time in the process reducing costs, and increasing business efficiency.

R3= BENEFITS:

• CUSTOMERS. Benefits for customers to implement this system would be improved to get what they want where they seek and in the desired amount.

• EMPLOYEES. Best performance in their processes generating some more time for themselves as well as to share with customers, decrease their physical and mental effort.

• COMPANY. Reduced costs, better inventory maintenance, generation
