General Conference, October 2014, Saturday Afternoon, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland.

On this talk which I think is awesome, because his talk is about helping the poor, and how we need to help doesn’t matter if you have much or little, but we need to still having that desire to help. The Lord describe in the scriptures, that we need to help the suffering in the poor even when the Savior didn’t had a place to stay, and Elder Holland describe him as a homeless, but he always help in so many ways, his love and compassion was enough to help everybody.

Also I can relate this talk whit the talk from the Elder Dallin H. Oaks when he is talking about the first and second most important commandment, which are, “Love God as I love you” and “Love thy neighbor”. In this case, or in my personal application, makes me ponder about what is really love, and what I can do in order to apply that love to my neighbor, or the poor and afflicted.

This talk really touch me in some other ways and one is when Elder Holland is referring to Mother Teresa de Calcuta, even when she was just a regular woman, she made a big difference in the ones she touch, and the example Elder Holland refer is; when we do something good is like a drop in the ocean, but if we do nothing is one drop less, and this statement makes me ponder in other good people out there trying to do good and all the good I can do with the people on my reach.

The most I think on fasting, becomes more interesting. I always though fasting was something beneficial to me, but after listening to Elder Holland change my hole perspective of it, because also is an act of love for our brothers and sisters on need. They really need help they are in a bad situation economically and emotionally, in this corrupted civilization being poor is objective of discrimination, which bring sorrow and burden to them, if we can do something good for them and help them according with the talk, we can develop that love Elder Holland is talking about.

I love when Elder Holland talk about all of us we plead, beg for that grace and mercy apply at least in our case and we retain the remission of our sins by helping the poor. In the example of the Zoramites when they were casted out from the synagogues by their appearance, because they were poor in the thing of the world and in heart, also I like the way Elder Holland describe, those things are together by hand. Alma and Amulek they explain to them, they can pray wherever they want, but after they prayed, they need help others, visiting them and giving them part of their owning if they have some, if they don’t do that their prayers will be in vain, and they will become hypocrites.

In a final thought make me ponder about my self-reliance and the way I can help others, loving them specially the poor and needy.
