Because Luke and Jake had a meeting with the company’s directors.

Because Jake wanted to construct an office building in the center of the city and Luke had given his word and he wanted to construct a children’s house.

1. Do you think Luke and Jake are very different from each other? How?

Yes, I do. Because they had different life styles. Luke was a married man with a beautiful family while Jake was a single man who thought in getting money and prestigious. he was ambitious and he had a “harmful habit” he liked to smokes while Luke hate it.

2. Explain why smoking is considered to be such a harmful habit.

This is considered in that way because many people hate the make produced by cigarettes. Moreover it produces bad breath and a bad smelling in the clothes and hands. This habit makes the teeth yellow.

3. What would you build- a children’s home or an office block? Why?

I would build a children’s home because around the city you can find different building with offices functions but you never find a good place for children that maybe do not have a comfortable and good place where they can live.

4. Do you have a favorite dish? What is it?

My favorite dish is the lasagna.

Activities

A. Imagine that you are going to buy a house. Look at the three buildings below and decided which one you would choose to live in. give reasons for your choice.

I would choose number 3 because I like the comfortable things. I don’t like to live so far from people and the supermarkets. I like th modern things. If I live in the city I can find many different places to visits and where I can buy the things I need.

B. “ a fool and his money are soon parted”

It means that people who don’t care his/her money lose it quickly.

b. “ you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”

People who had done thing during a long time in his/her life can’t change their habits.

c. “ you can’t judge a book by its cover”

People can’t be defined by their appearance, its’ important to meet them.

d. “every cloud has a silver lining”

They mean that it is always possible to get something positive out of a situation, no matter how unpleasant, difficult or even painful it might seem.

e. “better safe than sorry”

This idiom is used to recommend being cautious rather than taking a risk.
