REAL LIFE RELATIONSHIPS, AND VIRTUAL LIFE RELATIONSHIPS

The cultural tendency of a globalization is widely believed and is a large contradiction, due to the impossibility of a globalization of opportunities or a global economic model. Nevertheless, the cultural globalization and communication technologies are together walking towards the same progress.

Internet abolished the communication barrier that existed between different parts of the world, transforming itself into the milestone of a wide proliferation of assets, such as product exchanges, customs and manners, free access to education and informative tools. Suggesting a past, present and immediate future that force us to explore more creative sources. These innovative tools are introduced in different areas, and are available to young groups creating particular identities and cyber cultures, that have, consequently, established a vast difference on how our relationships were before and are nowadays.

Decades ago real relationships consisted of a physical presence and local surroundings that were limited on time and space. but virtual relationships develop ways of interaction that are no longer local but global, offering different services such as forums, chat rooms, dating websites, videoconferences. These options connect and mix people from all over the globe, multiple interchanges are possible at any time anywhere and with anybody, without requiring any physical presence or authority. This is what a virtual world is about, is about everywhere. This concept embodies most of our human needs, making the computer and related devices, an extension of our limbs that somehow complement, accelerate, and even empower our metal capabilities.

This virtual world is so close to the real one, but it is not the real world. you could meet somebody over the internet, in the other side of the world, but you could not stretch his/her hand, you could not feel the texture of the fabrics you are trying to buy, you cannot trying the shoes you want; Internet covers a wide concept of needs and wants but doesn’t get close to what reality is, leaving behind a wide broad of feelings and social needs that very often produce awkward behaviors, such as addictive conducts and isolation; like pornography. Due to its relatively easy access, bad usage of internet is very feasible.

As a platform for developing relationships, could be frightful at the beginning, and many factors including the novelty of the approach but it could be just as exciting as it’s is meeting people at a bar. These kinds of relationships could be very brief, form a simple message or exchange of information, like in the mornings when you say hi to your neighbors or to people you may never see again. Either relationships, virtual or real, have a common element, and as many internet users assert, they are real. These relationships involve real people, with real feelings, and real lives; that could reach actual levels of authenticity very similar. In some cases, after meeting face to face, they evolve and live together, but, in other cases the person you are chatting with online, is not the person you believe it is. Unlike in a real scenario you may know the person you are interested by observing his/ her actions or by asking people that relate to them.

Traditionally, people have fell in love through letters, without knowing each other, building a compromise and continuity trough the mailings. There is some sort of magic involved in the written world that doesn’t happen face to face. Nonetheless the feeling of writing to someone without personally meeting them is a similar feeling as in traditional letters and e-mails. Both work with everybody’s schedules and responsibilities, unlike phone call do.
