Think everyone, or at least the vast majority, will agree that, in an ideal world, the weapons should not exist. Unfortunately we do not live in an ideal world, therefore, weapons there. The countries used against other countries, are used by police and security officer, criminals use them.

But as if this were not enough, we also use them civilians. First of all let's start by asking: Is it legal, by a civilian (in Argentina at least), carrying a gun? The answer is: yes, long as the regulator (RENAR) consider the individual in question qualified to carry it.

RENAR handles various skills (psychiatric, weapon handling, physical skills; inquest background, etc. . .) to convert a civilian or a “legal user “. According to a note published in the newspaper “Page 12" on 09/06/07, "legally there are a million hundred thousand registered weapons in civilian hands. But it is estimated that two million actually circulate and medium “.

It follows that many people buy their guns illegally. On these there is currently no user control. But ... How reliable is the control exercised RENAR? On this issue, two observations:

1) Certificates of “legal user “sometimes are sold to people who are not fit, by a bribe, or negligently.

2) They are more than enough cases of people who, without being violent or suffer psychological problems, tragedies unleashed by firing a weapon in times of chaos or violent emotion (fending an assault in a street fight, in a fit of jealousy.).

hose who advocate the use of weapons by civilians, makes arguments like " weapons in if they are bad , there are people who misuse gives them "" if criminals can use weapons , why Decent people will not be able to use weapons to defend themselves also ? "" weapons will be always , whether legal or not, if they are not allowed more people will want to buy , "" which is violent, for more than not having a gun, going to grab a hammer or a knife and kill someone " , etc. .

There seem no immediate solutions to attack the root problem (improving education, lower poverty rates, eradicate corruption, improve safety, etc. . .). While therefore launched a campaign for people to voluntarily surrender their weapons exchange for a ticket. It would be nice to know if those who potentially are more likely to use their weapons opt for this measure...
