IEEE Std 1028 Definitions

- Software product. A complete set of computer programs, procedures, and associated documentation and data.

- Anomaly. Any condition that deviates from expectation based on requeriments specifications, design documents, user documents, standards, or from someone’s perceptions or experience.

- Review. A process or meeting during which a software product, set of software products, or a software process is presented to project personnel, managers, users, customers, user representatives, auditors or other interested parties for examination comment or approval.

- Inspection. A visual examination of a software product to detect and identify software anomalies, including errors and deviations from standards and specifications.

- Walkthrough. A static analysis technique in which a designer or programmer leads members of the development team and other interested parties through a software product, and the participants ask questions and make comments about possible anomalies, violation of development standards, and other problems.

- Technical review. A systematic evaluation of a software product by a team of qualified personnel that examines the suitability of the software product for its intended use and identifies discrepancies from specifications and standards.

- Management review. A systematic evaluation of a software product or process performed by or on behalf of management that monitors progress, determines the status of plans and schedules, confirms requirements and their system allocation, or evaluates the effectiveness of management approaches used to achieve fitness for purpose.

- Audit. An independent examination of a software product, software process, or set of software processes performed by a third party to assess compliance with specifications, standards, contractual agreements, or other criteria.
