ANZOÁTEGUI STATE

LOCATED

The Anzoátegui state is located in northeastern Venezuela. Bounded on the north by the Caribbean Sea, south of Bolivar State, on the west by the states of Miranda and Guárico and east by the states of Sucre and Monagas. Its capital is Barcelona.

HISTORYOF ANZOÁTEGUI

Anzoátegui State territory was inhabited by indigenous communities whose hostility became very difficult and forced the Spanish settlement to found and refound the villages of the area. Barcelona, for example, had three foundation attempts before permanent settlement in 1671.In the late seventeenth century were only able to establish three villages Spanish: Barcelona, Villa de Aragua and the Conception of Pao. Since the beginning of the Spanish occupation, the territory of present Anzoátegui was tied to the Province of Nueva Andalucía (later Province of Cumana), which together comprised the territories of present Bolivar, Delta Amacuro, Monagas and Sucre. In 1777, when it created the Captaincy General of Venezuela, Anzoátegui territory was part of the Province of Cumana. In 1810, they created the Province of Barcelona, one of the seven provinces that participated in the Declaration of Independence on July 5, 1811. In 1821, he joined the Department Orinoco which was separated in 1826, together with the provinces of Cumana and Margarita, to create the Department of Maturin, with its capital in the city of Cumana. It consisted of the counties of Barcelona, Aragua, Annatto, Píritu, Pao, San Diego, San Mateo and Soledad. In 1830, when Venezuela separated from the Republic of Colombia, Barcelona province maintained its character, until 1964, when he became the Federal State Barcelona. In 1881, it was converted into a section of the Great Eastern State, together with Cumana andMaturin.In1899, he revived the twenty states of the Venezuelan Federation and in 1909, he became Anzoátegui.
