THE GOVERMENT OF ZAMORA CHINCHIPE

Local Government is an institution whose task is to achieve exellent living conditions and a good quality of life to the citizens of Zamora-Chinchipe

The government is composed of a Governor and the first Governor in Zamora Chinchipe was Manuel Benigno Jaramillo in 1924.

However  his governance was dissolved in 1928 because local government in the área wasn’t considered to be very important, and also, for various political motives, the area Zamora-Chinchiope wasn’t developed as it should have been.

 The next governor was Eduardo Suarez Palacio, who was inaugurated on November 10th, 1953. This date was also  the foundation of Zamora, when Zamora became a seperate entity from Santiago. Up until this date, Zamora had only been recognised as Zamora Santiago.

Local Government was reformed on april 26th, 2011 and began operating on February 15th in 2012 with a new Governor Jose Paqui appointed by Ecuadorian president Rafael Correa.

The current governor  is Victor Carlos Guaman Cajas.

Local Government is essential to tourism in Zamora as it helps with the development of the tourist infrastructure.

 Local government provides many opportunities for the development of both tourist and cultural attractions. Factsd of historical and cultural significance can be learned from many local government sources, and often, Local government offices are one  the first place a tourist will visit in order to discover information concerning the área.  

Local government not only helps tourism, it also helps cultures indigenous to the province, such as the local Shuar peoples.

The Local Government offices are open  Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 PM and are located in Jose Luis Tamayo and Diego Vaca streets..

The following áreas are some of the activities for which Local Government is responsable:

Public safety is the integrated action taken by the State, with the cooperation of the public and other organizations of good public standing to ensure peaceful co-existence, the eradication of violence, the maintainance of roads and public spaces.

Conflict management is a set of strategies and activities which aim to prevent an escalation of tension and the transformation of confrontational relations in partnership and confidence for the peaceful, just and equitable coexistence.

Risk management is a structured approach to managing uncertainty related to a threat approach, through a sequence of human activities, including risk assessment, developing strategies to manage and mitigate the risk of using management resources.

In conclusion I chose this institution because I think that is a very important institution where many people make their living by working and helping people who deserve it.

 Also it helps the development of the province by promoting  tourism, the construction of children’s play areas and many other things that are useful for the building of a safe and peaceful environment, where everyone can live and work in safety.
