BUENOS AIRES

The City of Buenos Aires was founded in 1580 by Juan de Garay. In 1536 there was a first settlement , a fort city which was not fulfilled since no Indian laws , made by Pedro de Mendoza , abandoned in 1541 due to the ongoing siege of the natives, 10 belonged to the Viceroyalty of Peru Spanish Empire . In 1776 it was designated capital of the newly created Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata by the king of Spain . During the first of the British invasions , which occurred in 1806 , the city was occupied by British forces and was for 45 days under the flag of the United Kingdom. In 1810 , the inhabitants of the city made the May Revolution , which ousted the viceroy , established a board of self-government and began the war for the independence of Argentina . During the government of Bartolomé Mitre was issued Commitment Act , by which was the seat of the national government and , in turn , of the provincial government . Finally , in 1880 , during the government of Nicolás Avellaneda , was federalized . Greater Buenos Aires was one of the main destinations of the immigration process that took Argentina since the late nineteenth century . In 1913 he opened the Subway of Buenos Aires , Latin America 's first subway . After the Reformation of 1994 Constitution Argentina city could have its own constitution and self-government directly elected .

The City of Buenos Aires is the main educational center of the country and an important center of artistic and intellectual activity . Among its renowned institutions include the National College of Buenos Aires and the University of Buenos Aires , the latter being among the best and most prestigious universities in America Latina.11 12

Its skyline is remarkably eclectic . Are mixed due to immigration, art deco styles , Art Nouveau, Neo-Gothic and French Bourbon . She was chosen by UNESCO as a City of Design in 2005 and as World Book Capital 2011.16

The city has the largest concentration of theaters in the world , beating to cities like New York and París.17 Among them, the Teatro Colón is by its impeccable acoustics, background and dimensions , one of the five most important opera houses in the world. 18 19 the Buenos Aires Subte was the first subway system in Latin America and the entire Southern Hemisphere .
