Poster Presentations

The posters presentation was an activity developed in the third floor of Students Center. The activity consisted of students presenting their own research studies. The main objective of this activity was to pick five presentations and discuss each one of them. The five posters presentation I choose were Learning cultural awareness through Role-play, Exploring the monster within: The use of Frankenstein as a classroom tool for inclusion, Death and Tragedy in Fantasy Literature for Children, Learning English to Join the Army ROTC and Queer Literature Overcoming Heteronormativity: Breaking the ‘Pato’ Image Puerto Rico Created. Learning cultural awareness through Role-play by Lourdes Caraballo Mercado consists of how role-play can be used in the classroom and integrated as a tool along with technology to help students get engaged in the learning about cultural awareness at the time the make use of English as a second language because students and the teacher together will create a safe environment where they can feel free to express themselves without being mocked due to their accent or mistakes when pronouncing a word. I liked about this presentation that it can help students express freely and fluent without being mocked. Exploring the monster within: the use of Frankenstein as a classroom tool for inclusion poster presentation by Zuleika Morales Carrero main purpose was creating a unit using literature where students could become familiarized with the character and create a sense of empathy towards different, disable or exceptional students. I like this poster presentation because by using the text students will create awareness and understanding about what it means to be different and change its negative connotation to a positive one. Death and Tragedy in Fantasy Literature for Children by Mariony Medina Serrano main purposes were to define the meaning of the concept of fantasy literature, define pedagogical approaches to the interpretation of the problem, define a psychological approach to the interpretation of the problem, and to define the meaning of the concept of death and that of tragedy in children’s book. From this poster presentation I liked that fantasy literature covers a variety of different topics but mostly the topic of death and tragedy and hoy this genre produces an impact on children. Learning English to Join the Army ROTC by Bibianna Rivera Traverso poster presentation objective is to identify the reason Army ROTC students at University of Puerto Rico are not able to complete the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI). I liked this presentation because it prepares students to speak fluently the English language since it will be their job language in the future and so they could be able to complete the test without having to repeat it. Finally the last poster presentation I choose was Queer Literature Overcoming Heteronormativity: Breaking the ‘Pato’ Image Puerto Rico
