SUMMARY OF THE HAPPY PRINCE

It's a beautiful story of a prince. He was happy when alive, because he was kept ignorant of any sadness or suffering outside his palace walls. People made his statue in his memory. The statue was made up of lead and with various jewels.

A swallow came to visit the place and stopped between the feet of the statue, was tired so he thought of taking a nap and a drop fell on his head. He looked up and saw that tears coming out from the eyes of the statue.

The eyes of the Happy Prince were filled with tears, and tears were running down his golden cheeks. Who are you? he said I am the Happy Prince. Why are you weeping then?, asked the Swallow; you have quite drenched me. When I was alive and had a human heart, answered the statue, I did not know what tears were, for I lived in the Palace. So I lived, and so I died. And now that I am dead they have set me up here so high that I can see all the ugliness and all the misery of my city, and though my heart is made of lead yet I cannot chose but weep.

The swallow becomes the statue's messenger reached to every possible place and helped a lot of people. The prince happily gave all his jewels gold stones to the swallow for helping the needy. Leaf after leaf of the fine gold, the Swallow picked, till the Happy Prince looked quite grey. Then the snow came and after a little time the swallow died because of the heavy snow. At that moment a curious crack sounded inside the statue, as if something had broken. The fact is that the leaden heart has snapped right in two. The mayor and councilors saw condition of the statue of the prince during their visit. A dead bird was under his feet. They decided to remove the statue from that place and put statue of the mayor.

God He ordered his angeles to bring the two most precious things from the town. They brought the broken heart and the dead swallow. The two got their right positions in the paradise.
