The Subsidy in the Chilean education.

Nowadays, the way that the education is subsidiary in our country, is reflected through the “SEP” law. “SEP” means in English “Preferential school subsidy” which gives money to schools in the public and private system. However, this resources are not equally used in the way that the law requires.

The semi private education in Chile has experimented a massive plosion in the Chilean school system.

“SEP” law promotes the use of monetary resources to improve infrastructure, to employ more professionals for the classrooms, like teacher’s assistants and to improve the library system by adding more books and computers. These resources are equally for all kinds of schools: public, semi-private and private ones.

However, the way that these monetary resources are used in the schools is not always as the “SEP” law says. They use the subsidy to pay vouchers, to re arrange short comings in the school; and in other cases, this money goes to the financial administrator. Ministry of education does not always supervise the application of the entire money used in the schools. There is no one in charge of take care of these resources and even when it is, no one control them to apply correctly their jobs. If there were someone who were especially dedicated to control what are they spending the money in, schools would be more aware on making a correct use of it and really benefit to students and education. Chile is much delayed on everything that educational system is about and there is a heavy lack of control about how curriculums and programs for primary and secondary schools are applied.

In conclusion, “SEP” law promotes the implementation of money as subsidy to improve education. Therefore these resources are not always used as the way that Ministry of Education requires. Most of the time, this money goes to personal accounts and not for what is has been requested.
