Jamaica

Jamaica is an island in the caribean sea , and in this time I will talk about of the Carnival that takes place in this country.

Carnival of Jamaica was established in the culture of the country in 1990, because, years before the country participated in the carnival of Trinidad and Tobago so the leader of the soca band, Byron Lee and the Dragonaires, was proposed to bring all the joy and color of carnaval to Jamaica.

This great party is celebrate every year from that year and has grown a lot, in the firs year, the contest of dance and masks only has 1400 contestans but in 1998 that number increase to one million contestants and this carnaval improved the bond between jamaicans and gradually each región of the country, organizedtheir own contest and select the best bands with the intention of reaching the end of this celebration, so it beacame on one of the most important cultural celebrations in Jamaica, and for this, Jamaica, in two months of the year , is a party.

This carnival invades the island with parades, dances, costume contests, and a "gang war". The central idea of this carnival is to bring the party to the Street so the best bands of soca, percussion, calypso and reggae go to this carnival I don`t know how to explain soca and calypso music, the only thing I can say is that is a very lively rhithm that it origin taked place in Trinidad and Tobago. Well, in this "gang war" is selected the best bands in the most important cities of the island and the final of this competition takes place in Kingston, in this war you can find nacional and internacional bands. You also can find many activities such as dance classes and an interesting event calle "Once upon a time" where people have the best stories for bedtime. But leaving it all behind, the best event and where else feel the reggae spirit is in the Beach Party, in this party many pepople dance and celebrate the carnival all the night.

The most important week in this festival is the one that goes from 21 to 26 of April because in this weeks the most important festivals, parades and competitions take place.

Finally, this carnaval is very cheerful so this implies that people view whith alot of bright colors and they have a saying that is “less is more” so their clothes are very small.
