JOURNAL – FIRST WEEK OF EXPERIENCE!

In the first week of my teaching practicum, I can say that there were some unexpected things and some others, that I knew, and I was expecting as well. Everytime I am going to start a new experience, concerning the practicum of my discipline I always trace some goals to reach, in this way, at the end of the  process I can see if it was achieved or not. During the week, the students were afraid about having a new “practicante” in the classroom, as soon as I arrived to the classroom I could notice some attitudes, and comments  saying ‘veamos que tiene de nuevo’, I always take it as something normal, because, is very usual that students  make some comments about the physical appearance, about the tone of voice and things like that. Another aspect and something that I am really trying to deal with and solving is to make the students a complete silence during the lessons, they just can’t be quiet and silence, every time, anyone of them has to be speaking, saying something, talking to the partner, hitting another partner, even though that was one of my first rules, the attention and the silence during the lessons, I  am thinking very seriously to take drastic measures to control and solve this! But something I really highlight in the whole sense that the majority of the class like to participate, as the classes are based on the function of the language, being communicative, I motivate them to say something about what I ask, and participate. Something curious that happens many times, is that I choose someone from the list to participate, and  I say; ook, read point number one, what is the answer? And the student say, Ay no! teacher yo no se leer eso—what I do immediately is Why not? Come on!! I know you can, you know that you are so smart, clever, intelligent, right guys? Come on read! Then the student tries to read, he/she does it very well indeed.. very very good! Well done!!. According to this, something I can also identify is that some of the students are insecure about their capacities, about what they can do, and sometimes it is reflected in their performance. So, something I am just trying to develop also is to make the feel that they are able to, encourage them with a certain strategy that help with this.

Summarizing, I can say that throughout the process, my role will be vital regarding the solution of all this issues in the classroom that are influencing somehow the students’ performance and their abilities as good learners.
