 Tasajera is located between Barranquilla and Santa Marta, which is located between the Ciénaga Grande and the Mar Caribe. By tradition, its inhabitants are fishermen, but environmental problems and the overexploitation of the swamp force many to seek another way of subsistence, since there are no companies here. Sandra Vilardy, a doctor in ecology and the environment, explained that the construction of two highways was one of the great historical evils of the municipality of Pueblo Viejo. She also explained that with the construction of these highways in the Magdalena, the flow of fresh and salt water was cut off, generating a lack of oxygen and other environmental problems that decreased the fishing production in the area, which in turn caused a low in the income of its inhabitants.

On the other hand, Restrepo also pointed out that the basis of the problems of Tasajera and other communities surrounding the Ciénaga, have been the lack of concrete actions to recover this ecosystem, which is being lost due to bad administrative, political and environmental decisions. In addition, the rulers have this town in complete oblivion and if money is implemented they steal it.

In the 1990s, a whole plan was made to recover the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta, even supported by money from the World Bank. However, with the arrival of paramilitaries in the area in the 1990s, among other things, these plans were left in limbo. Precisely, Vilardy reiterated that Pueblo Viejo 's ability to resist Tasajera has been enormous. She added that, in this place, they have resisted the presence of the ELN and Farc guerrillas, the paramilitary groups, the corruption of their leaders and the loss of their environmental wealth.

Poverty in Tasajera is one of the big problems at first sight of the environmental injustice that this town presents, since their way of working was fishing and today the water is not in its best conditions, the fish die and no They can bring a livelihood to their home. In addition, the children and young people who live there are in the worst conditions to get ahead, there are no adequate schools where they can train and acquire skills.

On the other hand, the government bears the greatest responsibility in this problem due to corruption and the supposed responsibility of the community for not ensuring their rights. But in my opinion one of the solutions that should be done is to create a consensus in which laws are implemented in favor of the quality and well-being of the people.However, it is very hard work.
