Overpopulation problem

Overpopulation is a problem suffered by cities or countries which have a high socioeconomic level. People are looking for better life opportunities and for this reason emigrant to other cities. This can represent a problem since there comes a point where services such as water, electricity, gas, public transport etc. are not enough and something unsustainable is done. Overcrowding can have several impacts on society such as increased crime, fewer job opportunities, scarce resources, and a negative impact on the environment.

In certain countries, the impact of migration and population accumulation in cities has been very relevant but not only with respect to population growth. But also, in terms of wealth generation. Today, more than half of the world's population lives in cities with more than 300,000 inhabitants, cities that are expected to continue to increase in numbers and reach 70% of the population.

The main effect of overpopulation is the unequal and excessive consumption of resources. The planet has a limited capacity to generate raw materials and every year the deficit of natural resources for consumption of these resources at a faster rate than the planet can generate them comes earlier. As a result, in developing countries, overpopulation exerts excessive pressure for control of resources. Territorial conflicts over water supply are in many cases leading to geopolitical tensions that could lead to wars.

The excessive consumption of natural resources as well as the growth in energy production from coal, oil, and natural gas (fossil fuels) is having a negative impact on the project. On the one hand, consequences such as deforestation and desertification, disappearance of animal and plant species, changes in the water cycle... to which is added the most direct consequence of the emission of large amounts of greenhouse gases, global warming. Overpopulation is therefore one of the greatest challenges already facing humanity and threatening the nearest future of the entire planet in economic, environmental, and social terms.
