Professor and class,

Agency privacy

Every police officers need to understand the importance of freedom of speech and their limitation. We as a public employee have the right to freedom of speech and communicate and receive information on the terms established in the constitution (First Amendment). But, as police officers we need to keep confidentiality and respect for the dignity of the people and institutions and public authorities (James Ruiz, Don Hummer‬, 2008).

A police officer may not speak out to the public with out the authorization of any supervisor or make propaganda in support against the agency, just for the reason to maintain privately of any information about investigations conducted by the agency in order to ensure confidentiality of any police procedures.

All the complaints about any unethical and unprofessional behavior on duty or off duty should be addressed internally to the department of human source. Any employee who violates the agency policy limitation will discipline with suspension with out salary.

“The effectiveness of a city’s police department depends on the perception in the community that it enforces the law fairly, even-handedly, and without bias . . . If the department treats a segment of the population of any race, religion, gender, national origin, sexual preference, etc., with contempt, so that the particular minority comes to regard the police as oppressor rather than protector, respect for law enforcement is eroded and the ability of the police to do its work in the community is impaired” (R. Kanovitz, 2012. Pg 103).
