Historical Conflict in Colombia
Subtopic:
Extortion by FARC EP during the 1970´s until 1990´s in Colombia.
Problem (question):
How was the commercial and agricultural development affected by the extortions of FARC between 1970 and 1990 and what was the result?
Thesis:
First of all the commercial sector was affected mainly by the lack of security and ability to trade freely. Caused by the extortion of different groups like the guerrilla of FARC. Also on the agricultural sector farmers with high economic power, entered in conflict with the guerrilla because they didn´t accepted the extortions applied by the FARC.As a result they created private armies for defending themselves and so paramilitarism was born in Colombia. On the contrary small farmers were unable to protect their lands from the extortions of the FARC. Therefore they had to give up their lands and scape to the city. Finally we can conclude how the extortion of the FARC created 3 primary problems; Difficulties in commerce, reduction in production by small farmers and creation of new violence groups by huge land owners.
Objectives:
• To show the negative relation between extortions and agricultural development.
• To explain why the FARC introduced extortion to their list of illegal activities.
• To demonstrate the impact that these activities had in other sector as tourism and transport system and its general impact on Colombia´s economy.
