REPORT ABOUT 10 MONUMENTS IN THE HISTORIC DOWNTOWN
OF THE MEXICO CITY

In Mexico, since centuries ago, there were existed beautiful monuments and palaces, that they had marked important moments in the History of Mexico. And by many of this monuments or Palaces, Mexico city is too called The City of the palaces.
1. LEGISLATIVE PALACE DONCELES (LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF MEXICO CITY)
This palace was built by Francisco Abreu in 1851, on the Donceles Avenue. The original idea was become this building in the Iturbide theater, the principal theater of the country. After of the fire in National Palace, where is destroyed the Legislative residence, The House of representatives moved to this building. Nowadays, this building is the headquarters of the Legislative assemby of Mexico city.
2. THEATER OF THE CITY, ESPERANZA IRIS.
In 1912, next to the Legislative Palace Donceles, is built the Xicotencatl Theater, but this was sold in 1913 for problems with the structure and with the Legislative Palace. Esperanza Iris, a famous actress of the time, bought this building, and ordered its destruction. The new theater was built by Ignacio Capetillo and it was the place where Esperanza Iris showed many works. This theater went in decline with the opening of the Fine Arts Palace in 1934.
3. THE POSTAL PALACE.
This palace was built by Gonzalo Garita and Adamo Boari in 1902, on the place where was built the Real Hospital of Our Mrs of the pure Conception. This palace is too called “Fifth House of Mails”.
Built by order of Porfirio Diaz, this palace is one of the symbols of the Porfiriato, near to the Fine Arts Palace and the Public Works Palace.
4. COMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC WORKS PALACE (ART NATIONAL MUSEUM).
This palace was built in 1911 by Silvio Contri, by order of Porfirio Diaz. This palace was built on the place where was the Saint Andrew Hospital. It’s one of the symbols of the Porfiriato, and symbolize the modernity of Mexico in the XX century. In its time, it was the Ministry of Comunications and Public Works, nowaday is the Art National Museum. In 1973, this place was a candidate to host the General Archive of the Nation.
5. MINING PALACE.
This palace was built in 1813 by Manuel Tolsa, to be the Real College of Mining and the Real Court of Mining. This place too was planned to be the Imperial Palace, Maximiliano from Habsburg’s residence.
This palace was headquarters of the National University of Mexico and now, it’s part of the Faculty of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
6. THE ANCIENT PALACE OF COUNTS OF THE ORIZABA'S VALLEY (THE BIG HOUSE OF TILES).
This house was built in the XVI Century, to be the Counts of Orizaba’s House. This building is covered with tiles of Puebla talavera. Its name too was “The Blue Palace”.
This place became in the headquarters of the Jockey Club, the club most luxurious in the Porfiriato.
In 1919, the house became in one of the stores of Sanborns. This place is surrounded for tales of Ghosts and spirits of the ancient owners.
7. THE ITURBIDE’S PALACE ( IMPERIAL PALACE, BANAMEX’S CULTURE MUSEUM)
This palace was built by Gonzalo Juarez de Cordoba, Higher Accountant of the Real Court of the Bank Accounts in 1665, this palace was his house. After of the Independence, the palace was offered to Agustin Iturbide to live there. In 1822, Agustin was crowned by the Constitutional Congress and proclaimed Emperor of Mexico in the main balcony.
