Rabies

Rabies attacks nervous system and is consider the oldest zoonotic disease and in the history I was discover that they are to different forms of rabies; the paralitic and furiuos rabies. In the 1885 the first vaccine was cultivate by growing the virus in rabbits and others methods were used too. The first outbreak of rabies on the history happen in Malasia in 1952 I was most of the people who was getting infected with this disease was dying since they were not any antibiotics or vaccines to fight the infection. According with the information giving on the presentation the all mammals are at risk, but most risk is Asia and Africa and one of the major contributors is India. The incubation period can be from 1 or 2 months and the range is from less than seven days to more than six years. One important fact is that rabies is considered the highest case fatality rate of any infectious disease. Since, rabies is a well know disease because of highest report cases reported every year it’s important to know how this disease is transmitted in order to take precautions and try to avoid getting infected. Transmission of rabies virus occurs mostly through the bite of an infected animal. This inoculates virus-laden saliva into the tissue of a vulnerable host; also organ transplants and contamination of an open wound, scratch, abrasion, or mucous membrane by infected saliva or neural tissue are also ways that rabies can be transmitted. As a consequence of long incubation periods animals might not present any symptoms after six month therefore the animals are not isolated and keep transmitted the disease to other animals or to humans. Factors influencing Transmission are humans live with pets that are considered domestic animals, hunter and farmers and the environment. Yes, it can be controlled by effective surveillance where the seven attributes should be put in place, vaccines and other methods. Current research that scientist are working on is presence of Virus Neutralizing Antibodies in Cerebral Spinal Fluid Correlates with Non lethal Rabies in Dogs according to the presentation. This presentation was really informative and it help me to have a better understanding of what is rabies. However, I would have like for the presentation to cover a little of more the current research has it going right now.
